Meant To Be - Page 12

“How was work?” Liam asks me. I turn my head to look at his profile. It seems I can’t get enough of looking at him. “Good. I’ll be glad once I’m done with school and my hours are a little less sporadic. What did you get up to today?”

“That will be nice, maybe then you won’t fall asleep on the couch,” he says with a wink. “Finished sanding and staining the back deck. I think I’m going to get some kind of awning or umbrella on it though, so we can sit outside in the afternoon without dying of heat stroke.”

“I’d like that. Maybe have dinner out there, or get a big outdoor couch so we can sit outside under the stars and snuggle when the weather is just right,” I tell him with a wistful tone in my voice.

“Yeah, I like the way you’re thinking,” he responds as he continues driving until we get to Del Fresco’s. My mouth is salivating just thinking about the delicious steak I hear everyone talk about. There’s a lot you can’t afford when you live on your own at such a young age, add in that you pay for your schooling with cash and you love to shop, so you really have to crunch numbers and hustle hard.

“I can’t believe we are eating here. I’ve wanted to try this steak house ever since it opened up,” I say enthusiastically.

“Believe it, Everly. I’m going to try my damnedest to make your every dream come true,” he grumbles.

“But all my dreams are coming true. Every time I’m with you, it’s like a fairytale has come to life.” I’m looking in his eyes, mine are slightly wet from the tears gathering in them, and I’ll never be more thankful for my car breaking down on the side of the road and meeting Liam.

Chapter Seventeen

The way she’s speaking to me right now, it’s from the depths of her soul. I’m really hoping that her knowing I have to leave in a short amount of time won’t break us apart. I’m not sure what I would do if that happened. Probably renew my contract and stay gone as much as possible if Everly decides our relationship won’t work with us being away from each other a time or two.

I park the truck, go over to the passenger side, and open her door. I grab her hand and help her out of the vehicle. We walk inside, my arm is wrapped around her lower back, and she’s as close to me as humanly possible.

“Hi, welcome to Del Fresco’s. How may I help you?” the hostess asks.

“Hello, we have a reservation under Liam Stevens,” I respond to her.

“Right this way, sir. We have your table ready for you,” she tells us as we follow her to our table. Like Everly, I’ve heard great things about this place, but what single man comes to a steak house by himself. I, for damn sure, wouldn’t. So when I heard about this place through Pete, I knew I had to take Ev here and out on an actual date too.

I help Everly take her seat and then join her. When the waitress comes, we order our drinks, both of us ordering sweet tea, and we settle in. Now’s the time I man up and tell Everly the truth.

“Everly, Baby. I need to tell you something,”

“You can tell me anything Liam. You know that right?” she responds with worry on her face.

“I know, and I do tell you everything. Except this, I haven’t spoken about it. Mainly because I’m ready to stop and stay home more often,” I grunt.

“Stop what?” she asks. “I promise I’ll be here no matter what, but you’re kind of scaring me right now Liam.” When she puts it like that, I know have to get it out and fast. I don’t want Everly ever scared of something I may do.

“It’s my job. I’ll be leaving here soon for a month. It’s overseas and contact will be basically a phone call here and there,” I rush out to tell her.

“Oh, well that’s not too bad. I mean, it’s your job. You have to work,” she tells me and I let out the air I was holding in thinking she’d be pissed off and want to walk away.

“Thank Christ you’re okay with all this. I’m not leaving for a while yet. It leaves us plenty of time to explore what’s building between us.”

“Oh,” she says with shock in her voice, and I know now is the time to let her know how I see our future.

“I want you now. I want you when I get back. I want a future with you. And I definitely want you living with me, marrying me, having our babies, and growing old with me. That’s what I want, Everly. I just want you,” I tell her with a tone that conveys the truth. This way she knows it’s the God’s honest truth.
